Strengthening mental health before, during and after disasters
Disaster mental health
The Asia Pacific experiences more disasters than any other region. Climate change is increasing the frequency and intensity of disasters, with significant impacts for mental health.
The Asia Pacific Disaster Mental Health Network aims to advance research, policy and translation of evidence so that communities are better supported in preparation and response to disasters, pandemics and mass trauma.
Innovative research
The Network brings together leading scholars and practitioners in psychology, psychiatry, medicine and public health, to develop and deliver rigorous research in disaster mental health.
Policy development
We translate the mental health evidence base to inform policy on disaster risk reduction.
Partnerships
The Network brings together partners from research institutions, service providers, government and non-government organizations in eight countries across the region.

“Sexual violence, psychosocial problems, economic problems… these are daily life crises, the earthquake made these crises bigger.”
— Community member, Nepal
